So, I just received a call from some Indian dude at Microsoft saying that he's trying to help me get rid of a computer virus. Several calls, actually, because the reception was extremely shitty on his side.
Anyway, on his last call, he gave me some instructions saying to press ctrl+r, then some letters like "iexp...." (I believe not everyone gets this same combination, some get "eventvwr". As I was following the instructions, I Googled "indian phone call computer virus" along with some of his instructions.
Turns out, that it's actually a scam which they use to scare you into buying some fake antivirus or whatever and sucker you out of 299 bucks/however much they want.
So I hung up in the middle of his call and just resumed my usual Internet browsing. Strangely enough, they stopped calling me.
So if you ever receive a call like this, some Indian dude talking about fixing your computer by removing a virus, followed by instructions similar to these, just ignore him and hang up.
You would think that an actual Microsoft office would have better phone reception, anyway.
